Dr. Hristo Stanchev has 25 years` professional experience with special interests in geography, Geographic Information System, coastal geomorphology, coastal erosion, Maritime Spatial Planning, Land-Sea Interactions (LSI), etc. Hristo holds MSc degree in geography (1993) from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”.

Center for Coastal & Marine Studies - CCMS
Center for Coastal and Marine Studies – CCMS is a research foundation, non-governmental and non-profit organization established in March 2018 in Varna, Bulgaria on the Black Sea coast. The CCMS has the fundamental goal of developing and promoting science, research, knowledge transfer and innovation technologies in the Black Sea and the World Ocean by bringing together science, environment, expertise, stakeholders and policy making. The CCMS is directly advised by Advisory Committee, which currently involves seventeen distinguished members from other institutes, universities and organizations all around the World.
PROJECT DEVELOPMENT, KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER, NETWORKING AND CONSULTANCY
- Development and coordination of research and management/infrastructural national, EU and other projects.
- Participation in projects and activities initiated by other national, foreign and international organizations to support CCMS mission.
- CCMS promotes knowledge transfer on a national and worldwide scale and participation of experts to consultant work groups to national and EU/international institutions and authorities.
- CCMS conducts educational, publishing and editorial activities in the field of coastal and marine science in the Black Sea and the World Ocean environment, etc.
- CCMS experts are experienced in organizing seminars, thematic workshops, roundtables, conferences, trainings or other events to promote project results and inform different stakeholders.
- CCMS has established a large network of contacts with related Bulgarian, EU and international organizations.
- Link and cooperate with industry on a national and international scale.
COASTAL & MARINE STRATEGIES
- CCMS develops and examines scientific basis for sustainable coastal development and Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM).
- By developing programs and strategies, CCMS advocates for the implementation of the European Union (EU) Integrated Maritime Policy, Blue Growth Strategy, Concept for Circular Economy, European Green Deal, United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030. and other EU strategies and concepts.
- Elaborating scientific basis and expertise to support implementation of Directive 2014/89/ of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 July 2014 for Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP): defining indicators for analysis of marine space, studies of Land-Sea Interactions (LSI), identifying conflict and compatible coastal/marine human activities and environment, developing MSP plans.
- Developing long-term environmentally and economically balanced solutions for the protection and sustainable use of coastal and marine resources under climate changes.

Advisory Committee
Our research program and projects require close collaboration with coastal and marine scientific and research community and the support of different institutions, external experts, consultants, etc. The Foundation is directly advised by an Advisory Committee (AC), which is part of the governance structure of CCMS. The AC members are distinguished, world-classb scientists, researchers and experts from other institutions having significant experience in both coastal/marine science and management. The membership in the Advisory Committee of CCMS is honourable, without management functions and featuring collaboration and partnership activities with particular contributions to the CCMS, such as research projects, publications, expert advises, outreach activities, etc.
