CCMS at the MSP WEEK, MSP-GREEN & REGINA-MSP Final conferences & MSP4BIO think-thank science-policy dialogue in Marseille, 22-24 October 2024
On 22nd of October 2024 “A Decade of European MSP – Stakeholder Conference”, an exciting and dynamic conference exploring the evolving landscape of MSP was conducted in Marseille, France. The conference brings together experts, policymakers, and industry leaders from across the European Union and beyond, to foster dialogue, share best practices, and chart a course towards more integrated and sustainable maritime planning. Over five engaging sessions, the accomplishments of the last decade, lessons learnt, challenges, and future direction of MSP, highlighting the critical role of stakeholder engagement, regional cooperation, and innovative technologies were explored. The discussions covered a wide range of priority topics, from the impact of the European Green Deal on MSP to the integration of climate-smart trends and cutting-edge technologies, how MSP plans are being updated to address contemporary issues such as climate change and multi-use conflicts, the benefits and challenges of data-driven innovations like digital twins for marine environments.

ECHOES FROM BLASK SEA BASIN WORKSHOP ON MSP-EGD-MPA NEXUS
The Black Sea Basin Workshop "Bridging Maritime Spatial Planning with the European Green Deal and better Integrate Marine Protected Areas" was successfully conducted last week on June 20th, in Varna, Bulgaria as a hybrid event. The workshop was jointly organised by the three European Union sister projects MSP-GREEN, MPA Europe and MSP4BIO, and hosted by the MSP-GREEN / MSP4BIO partner from Bulgaria - Center for Coastal and Marine Studies (CCMS). The workshop aimed to present and discuss at the Black Sea Basin level how the MSP could strengthen and promote better integration and implementation of the EGD maritime objectives (based on MSP-GREEN draft recommendations). The Black Sea Workshop also addressed the specific EGD topic of improved science-based MSP for biodiversity protection and better alignment of MPAs management and their integration in MSP.

BLUE CONNECT Kick-off start in Berlin!
Between 30 September – 2 October 2024 all project partners met in Berlin, Germany to kick-off the start of the BLUE CONNECT project
SUBMARINER and its partners launched the BLUE CONNECT project on 30 September 2024 in Berlin. This ambitious project addresses the urgent need to protect and restore marine habitats and ecosystems and to overcome gaps in the effective implementation of EU and global legislation by mobilizing the MPA managers, authorities, industries and local communities to co-develop and demonstrate a systematic approach to marine conservation planning and management. CCMS is partner in the BLUE CONNECT and leads the Work package 4 – Showcasing effective co-ownership and co-management: engaging stakeholders and citizens.
MSP-GREEN HOSTED EU LEVEL Workshop: SVENDBORG, 29 MAY 2024!
The EU Level workshop to share recommendations on how to strengthen the integration of EGD maritime components into MSP, one of the main outputs of the project, with experts from all over Europe was successfully conducted: 30 experts from sectors, governance and research joined the workshop to evaluate and expand the draft recommendations. The interactive event and working groups provided a lot of feedbacks that will help improve the recommendations.
After introductory presentations, tens of recommendations were considered using tables and colour-notes inputs. The recommendations will be finalized and shared at basin level during five basin events, before making it to the final event.
A special thanks to partners and experts for putting time and effort in creating recommendations and providing useful feedback.
The Black Sea Basin Workshop to share and discuss MSP-GREEN recommendations will be held on 20 of June 2024 in Varna, Bulgaria!
